Chula Vista Elementary School District Board Seat 3

Student-first leadership for Chula Vista

Katina Gonzalez-Rondeau brings direct classroom experience, fiscal accountability, and practical community advocacy to our neighborhood elementary schools.

About the candidate

With 25 years of experience as an award-winning classroom teacher—named Teacher of the Year in 2007, 2018, and 2024—I bring deep educational expertise to the board. Holding a Master’s in Special Education and a USD School of Law certificate in Special Education Law and Advocacy, I’ve dedicated my career to helping families navigate student rights and secure vital services.

As a former trustee, an educator, an advocate, and parent, I offer a unique 360-degree perspective. I understand how board decisions directly impact classrooms and remain committed to being a knowledgeable, responsive voice for our community.

Platform Focus

Our key priorities

What are the three key issues Chula Vista is facing that I will address?

Operational & Administrative Instability

Budget deficits

Decline in Enrollment & Staffing shortages

Prioritize an immediate operational overhaul by implementing standardized procedures, requiring staff cross-training, and establishing strict position-control systems to prevent unbudgeted hiring.

Require rolling 3-to-5-year financial forecasts, updated and presented publicly. Multi-year forecasting exposes structural gaps early, allowing the board to make strategic decisions rather than emergency cuts.

Our schools must offer excellent, competitive programs that retain families. I will prioritize competitive compensation for essential staff and ensure any future budget reductions target central administrative overhead first.
